Bummer! I had planned to go out to Pinnacle Park this afternoon, but maybe I can go tomorrow then.

So what else is there to do, other than updating the website and communicating on the network sites?

SO I started cooking - :-))

Orange Roughy in a creamy garlic and herbs sauce....I will add rice later. I also cooked a chicken casserole with carrots and a creamy mushroom and herbs sauce. I am still debating what carbs to add...rice or pasta? Nooooo, no potatoes! Always remember: Starches are out if you want to lose weight.

Anyways, bot dishes came out really yummie!

I also made "the best kraut ever", I believe, and I will finish up the dish later with chicken brats (with cheese!), and home made spaetzle noodles (some call it dumplings here).

Other than that, I currently have Lasagna al forno (oven baked) either with mear sauce or without, and beef stew with veggies and rice...and also tilapia in a sauce bearnaise with lemon, and rice.

Oh,a nd I started making ice cream again...right now I have strawberry gelato.

I think that's it for the coming week.

Have a good one!
Deann

About my home cooked frozen meals and WALKING

Several ladies asked me about my 'home cooked (frozen) meals' project, so here's the update:

I have had a few steady customers for about a year now. Since I vary my meals a bit from week to week, it never gets boring and they still come by the house every week to pick up around 7 - 10 meals. Some take the food to work and heat it up in the microwave for lunch, some prefer to have them at home for dinner - and some do both!

I could handle a few more customers, so if you're interested, contact me for details! :-))

Here's what I usually have available:

Garden lasagna al forno (oven baked)...either vegetarian or with a beef sauce, bechamel sauce on top, and sprinkled with real Italian parmesan cheese.

Grilled chicken breast, with steamed veggies and rice, sauce varies (just ask what I have)

Beef stew (slow cooker), mixed veggies, rice, sauce varies
(sometimes I have a beef roast)

Shrimps, veggies and rice, sauce varies

Fish (Salmon, Tilapia, Mahi-Mahi, depending on purchase price), mixed veggies and rice, sauce varies

Every now and then I also have:

Brats, kraut, and spaetzle noodles
Lobster/shrimp ravioli with veggies and sauce
Mediterranean style jumbo shrimps with linguini

I also have home made premium jams available ( right now I have organic black berry), and I also make home made gelato (Italian)ice cream (please order ahead).

Now to the second part of my message today: WALKING

The cold temps on Winter should be gone very soon, in fact we already had pretty warm weather - ideal for getting outdoors and moving those legs. Since activities of that kind usually need a bit of motivation, I am offering to walk with you. Let's organize small walker groups...and do this together. As usual, no cost involved for walking, and if you ask me questions while walking, I will give you free advice on nutrition and how to lose weight. If you're not local....why not organize a group walk in your area yourself?! I bet'cha you'll meet a lot of nice people this way.

So there you have it, ladies :-))

Have a great week and - HOLLER!

Deann

Great - I am back!

I want to apologize for not having posted anything in quite some time. It’s a byproduct of blood filtration from your kidneys. A pigment called urochrome, which results from the breakdown of hemoglobin, a protein in your red blood cells, is what makes it yellow.

At the most basic level, the color of your urine can tell you two things:

1. If you have an infection
2. If you’re dehydrated

Ideally, your urine should be light yellow, so for the former, cloudy urine is often a sign of an infection (or kidney stones), while dark yellow urine is a sign that you need to drink more water.

What else can the color of your urine tell you?

Red or Pink Urine: This could be caused by blood in your urine (due to urinary tract infections, enlarged kidney stones or even strenuous exercise), medications or eating lots of blackberries, beets or rhubarb.

Orange Urine: If your urine is orange, you may be very dehydrated. This can also be caused by medications or eating lots of carrots.

Fluorescent Yellow Urine: This happens when you take B vitamins.

Blue or Green Urine: This can be caused by a rare condition that causes high levels of calcium. It can also result from eating a lot of asparagus or taking certain medications. Additionally, if you have ever eaten asparagus you will also know it imparts a very characteristic odor to your urine.

Brown Urine: Medications and some liver disorders can turn your urine tea-colored, as can eating a lot of fava beans, rhubarb or aloe.

Urine that is sweet-smelling is also a sign that you may have diabetes, as the sugary smell may be coming from a high concentration of blood sugar in your urine.

Ultimately, paying attention to the simple clues your body gives you -- and that includes the things your body excretes -- is something everyone should do."

Let me add my five cents to this:

Like thousands of other women, I have had UTI problems for a long long time. UTI's are usually caused by a bacterial imbalance in your urinary tract. I assume that everybody knows how they occur (sexual contact, or menstruation, for example).

We have been advised to drink lots of 'real' cranberry juice, some say to drink two alka seltzers in water at the onset....but none of those remedies actually really helped me ever, and I usually ended up with antibiotics from my PCP. NOT GOOD!

A friend of mine gave me a bag of Chi's asparagus extract one day. I was supposed to drink it like tea, and had to force myself to get it down. It tasted really bad. But guess what?! The symptoms were completely gone!

The next time I had an UTI, I decided to try eating it like a broth, and voila, I was fine with it! So there you have it, this is THE MOST POTENT natural herbal supplement I ever took.

As much as I have refused endorsing or selling supplements until now, I would recommend and even sell Chi's products in a heartbeat. Amen, Tommy. Many of us follow his lead every day by shunning the most basic principle of Darwinian evolution?trying to survive?with food, toxins and reckless lifestyles. If you'd like to get in on the act, we present our easiest catalysts to self-destruction.

(Heather Whipps)

10)

Sacrifice Sleep

Inadequate sleep (less than 7 or 8 hours a night) has been tied to many different health problems, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. Mental fatigue is also as big of a risk factor for vehicular accidents as alcohol. And just think of all the time you'd have for destructive behavior if you shunned the zzz's altogether!

9)

Ignore the Doctor

Many Americans agree that their health is hardly worth finding thirty minutes among 526,000 for that once-per-year physical exam. It's a good tactic if early disease detection and important medical consultation are going to get in the way of your Tommy Lee lifestyle. If you don't want to hear the doctor tell you our other tips for self-destruction are unhealthy, just don't go.

8)

Dumb Down Your Brain

Reading, doing crosswords and tackling sudokus are all risky behaviors if you're looking to avoid Alzheimer's. The degenerative brain disease attacks almost everyone who lives long enough, though mind games and puzzles are known to ward off the effects.

7)

Have a Lot of Sex

Most people agree that sex in itself isn't so bad, it's how you do it that could mean life or death. The smart self-destructor doesn't use protection, ignores the partner's sexual history and shuns the annual medical exam. Twelve million Americans contract sexually transmitted diseases every year, many of which can leave the victim infertile. Killing yourself and preventing new births: there?s a two-fer!

6)

Drive a Lot

If people wanted to increase their chance of surviving 'til a ripe old age, they'd fly everywhere. Driving kills more people aged 1 to 35 than anything else, a statistic that could drop to near zero if everyone just stayed home. But how fun would that be? So hit the road, forget the speed limit, yak on your cell phone?or worse, eat?and don't buckle up if you're anxious to become part of this popular statistic.

5)

Drink a Lot

The occasional drink of alcohol, especially wine, can be beneficial to your health, many studies suggest. But if you're looking to do yourself in, overdo the two-drink-per-day limit and imbibe heartily. Besides alcoholism of course, too much booze causes liver damage, diabetes and is the root cause of nearly 100,000 deaths per year.

4)

Stress Out

Creating more stress in your life is a great way to invite all kinds of diseases to attack the body. When you're chronically stressed, the adrenal glands are forced to work overtime and eventually exhaust themselves, inhibiting the immune system. So go ahead and worry about everything from the color of your socks to whether dinner will be ready on time. Your hormones won't know what hit them.

3)

Watch TV

Not only is television entertaining, it can keep us on the couch for hours at a time several days per week. The average American spends a full 9 years of his life glued to the boob tube, years that could otherwise be spent exercising. Resist the urge! Being an obese, sedentary TV-addicted couch potato makes for speedy self-destruction, though you may be a little smarter (if you watch those nerdy science channels).

2)

Smoke

They don't call them cancer sticks for nothing: Tobacco-related illnesses are America's number two killer, and the most preventable. But if you're bent on putting the kibosh to healthy living, go ahead and light up; just one cigarette will immediately increase your blood pressure and decrease the circulation to your extremities. Imagine what you could do with a pack.

1)

Eat Junk

Last year, at least 400,000 Americans managed to kill themselves based almost solely on what they ate. Heart disease is the country's number one killer and, while some of that comes from genetics, most of it's due to the fat-laden, sugar-heavy junk we put in our bodies. Looking for the most effective, probably most enjoyable way to do yourself in? Have another dough nut. And make it cream-filled!

So there you have it. It's what i said!!! :-)))

Deann

7 Ills That Don't Need Pills!

Here are a few more valid reasons to start losing weight and exercise:

In the April 2008 issue of the Harvard Health Letter, researchers explained how seven common conditions can be managed without medication. In many cases, the nonpharmacological approach can do as much or more than pills.

Arthritis: Combine weight loss with exercise, and you may have less pain and more mobility -- especially if the exercise that doesn't put any load on the joints, such as swimming, reduces pain.

Cholesterol: Adding soluble fiber to your diet can reduce levels of LDL cholesterol.

Cognitive decline: Memory training can help you stay sharp, and physical exercise can do even more.

Depression: Regular physical activity has a potent antidepressant effect.

Diabetes: Exercise makes muscle more receptive to the insulin, and eating fewer sweets and simple carbohydrates helps control blood sugar levels.

High blood pressure: Lose weight, get more exercise, and eat less sodium.
Osteoporosis: Weight-bearing exercise causes bone tissue to get stronger and denser. Extra vitamin D and calcium are key for your diet.

(Source: Live Science March 25, 2008)

Welcome to my blog

Ok ladies, let's talk about our bodies for a moment. Or not? OK, then how about I tell you about my trip to the store earlier this afternoon.....?

I really didn't need much, but definitely wanted to make sure I didn't run out of my favorite organic green leaf salad...it's from Earthbound and it's called "Mache" Well, the a has a little roof over it because it's a posh french name...but it really doesn't bother me ;-)

Mache salad has always been my favorite, I grew up with it in Germany, and there it's called 'fieldsalad', or 'rapunzelsalad'...and in Switzerland they call it 'nuesslisalad' (translates to nut salad).

Anyways, it does have a nutty taste to it, and it's delicious!

There's only two stores in town that offer it - as far as I know- and I had to drive over to Highway 10 to The Fresh Market store. It's a very 'In' store, kinda like 'beans and grains'...or is it called 'wild oats' now? Gee, who can keep up with all those posh organic names? LoL

So there I was standing in the check out line, and to make time go by faster, I was looking around to check out the other people in line, and believe me, only health conscious folks shop at that store. I caught myself staring at this middle aged lady at the cash register in front of me...wondering if she was really pregnant or just carrying about a sack full of supreme shakes with super sized fries around with her.

Now here comes the shocker: About 80 (as in EIGHTY!) percent of all shoppers in that store had either some sort of weirdly deformed bodies (as in fat where it shouldn't be), or were just evenly FAT all over. Oops, I apologize...I should know better than that...the politically correct term is 'overweight', and I should have used it. My bad!!

But what I want to say is...here we have so many people that urgently need to listen to what I have to say....they need my personal weight loss plan to look healthy again - and yes, that means they need to lose weight a-s-a-p.

But how can I reach them? I wished I could just approach each one of them and give them my business card, but ... looks can kill and I don't want to die yet :-))

Maybe I should implement a donation button on my website, in case someone wants t0 support my mission promoting the fitladiesrock movement nationally?

I'd really like to hear from my readers what they think I could do to make a major contribution in winning this war against the 'super sized junk food mafia' out there.

With that in mind, I want to wish all of you a very happy Easter weekend!

Your 'Fitlady on da rock' -

Deann
